Bay View Resort is a select development of villas, penthouses, bungalows, and townhouses, located in the Lassithi Prefecture, at the undiscovered eastern end of the Greek island of Crete, the most south-easterly corner of Europe. The area has a long history dating back to prehistorical times, and the remains of Minoan, Cretan, Aegean, Roman, Byzantine, Venetian, and Ottoman settlements echo the tides of civilisation that have swept this land. Natural treasures include a scattering of uninhabited off-shore islands; the crystal-clear blue waters of the south-eastern Mediterranean; long sandy beaches, secluded coves, and rocky headlands; and a mountainous hinterland where occasional rivers cut deep gorges and irrigate lush green plateaux. The whole area is punctuated by traditional Cretan villages, where the visitor can experience a warmth and hospitality unmatched in Europe. Long hot summers and short mild winters make this an exceptional destination for relaxation, and the whole area has a special beauty that reflects serenity and tranquility. Some of the best places on Crete can be found here, including Markry-Gialos, where Candia Developments is regenerating rare undiscovered land in a location that combines outstanding lifestyle with dynamic potential growth.
Living at the sunniest coast of Europe
Makrigialos (official spelling: Makrigialos is located in the south east part of Crete, and has one of the finest climates in Europe. It is not without reason that Makrigialos is called the “Sunny site of Crete”. It has the highest amount of sunshine hours, and the summer season lasts longer then any other region on the island or indeed elsewhere in Europe. It is an area of extraordinary beauty, with miles of unspoiled pristine sandy beaches, perfect Mediterranean climate, clear turquoise blue seas, imposing mountains, wonderful villages, picturesque scenery, and rolling hills. Makrigialos is free from mass tourism and noisy crowds, secluded in beautiful mountains, with extensive sandy beaches overlooking the southern Mediterranean Sea. The whole area is an excellent example of one of the few places in Europe where you can find majestic mountains that drop down to the sea, within a few kilometers of several wonderful sandy beaches. The region of Makrigialos is an outstanding example of Cretan beauty and hospitality, with all the amenities of modern life, but retaining the traditional feel of Cretan village life, providing a very warm and friendly welcome to visitors that is unmatched elsewhere in Europe.
East Crete
East Crete has the privilege of remaining largely undiscovered. Very few developments have been established, and existing projects are small in size. The east is a varied rural tableau of small pine forests, endless olive groves, elegant grapevines, fertile plateaux and valleys, and impressive palm trees. These features nestle amongst high granite mountains and sit alongside colourful rocky coastal cliffs and beaches that range from fpebble to golden and white sand. Property prices and general living costs remain lower than anywhere else on the island.
Sitia
The two main towns of the region are Sitia, 35km to the north, and Ierapetra, 25km to the west. Both are in close and easy proximity to Bayview, and each provides commercial, administrative, and healthcare facilities. The expansion of the existing Sitia National airport to handle international flights will provide direct flights via European destinations from 2011, and Sitia airport is expected to be a prime destination for all major airlines. At the same time, Sitia harbour is under expansion to accommodate international cruise ships, and is also due for completion in 2011.
Championship Golf and Leisure Facilities
Final construction permits were approved in October 2009 for Phase 1 of the Sitia Bay Golf Resort, which comprises a 200 room luxury hotel and spa, set in 280 hectares with 2.5km of sea front. The resort will be a 10 minute drive from Sitia airport and 35 minutes from Bay View. It will boast an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Championship Golf Course and club house, together with a Beach and Country Club, and other premier leisure facilities.
Makrigialos Investment Opportunity
Nearly 35% of the Makrigialos area is under the European NATURA program, where extremely rigid building regulations are in force for any form of development. This control becomes increasingly restrictive each year, and will ensure the future protection of the local landscape. The increasing restrictions on construction are excellent news for any investor with property here, where prices in Makrigialos are around 15% lower than the north of Crete. Once the entire infrastructure is in place, along with the Championship Golf Course, prices in Makrigialos and surrounding areas will rise significantly. The area of Makrigialos is a growing holiday destination choice for European property investment, with an all year round climate to match the strong investment opportunities not apparent elsewhere in Europe.
